We’re Going to Have a Virtual Birthday Celebration!
Bailey will be 13 years old on March 11. Some of you may remember that after her cancer surgery back in December of 2005, I was told she probably wouldn’t live for more than a few months. Hah! THREE YEARS LATER, she’s still going strong. I think that’s worth a celebration, don’t you?
So here’s what we’re gonna do: We’re gonna have an online birthday celebration on March 11, and EVERYBODY is invited.
I’ve already started planning–Bailey had her first photo shoot so that we can make a badge for our friends to use on their blogs. As you can see by this photo, she was not exactly thrilled to be wearing a happy birthday hat!
In celebration of the extra three years I’ve had with Bailey, I want to ask everybody out there to make some kind of donation to their local shelter or rescue group. This can be a donation of money or food or time. On March 11, I would like to invite everybody to come to my blog and let us know how you celebrated Bailey’s birthday or what you pledge to do for your local shelter to celebrate Bailey’s birthday.
More to come…
Romeo the Cat’s Campaign for Kitties
I’ve met a very nice cat named Romeo on Twitter. He’s of the Persian persuasion and he’s campaigning to raise money for Persian Rescue. He was on TV a couple of days ago.
Romeo has really inspired me! I am DEFINITELY going to do a birthday celebration for Bailey, and the biggest part of the celebration will involve contributions to local shelters and rescues.
GO GO ROMEO!!
More to come!

You may have already seen these videos, but a friend just forwarded them to me and I fell off my chair laughing.

I’ve received an award!
OK, this is kinda exciting! On Monday, I was honored by Salinger with a Kreativ Blogger Award! I feel like I’ve just won an Emmy!
Being so honored I was embarrassed to realize that I had let some of my housekeeping slip on the Fire Hydrant. So today I did a little cleaning up. I am sometimes challenged by the technical side of being a blogger, and often Blogger (the site hosting this blog) does not cooporate with me (why can’t the preview be WYSIWYG?). However, I now feel more worthy of this award.
There are some rules associated with the Kreativ Blogger Award.
1. List 6 things that make you happy.
2. Pass the award on to 6 Kreativ bloggers.
3. Link to the blogger who gave you the award.
4. Link to the blogs receiving the award.
5. Notify the recipients.
The 6 things that make me happy are easy:
1. Bailey and my family, because they love me just as I am.
2. A good night’s sleep. OK, maybe it’s a little hard to see but there’s a little white tail sticking out from under the covers.
5. A good trashy romance novel and the time to read it.

6. Comfortable clothes.
In no particular order, I hereby give the Kreativ Blogger award to the following blogs:
1. Daytripping Mom
2. Dog Show Poop
3. Vet on the Edge
4. 4 the Love of Animals
5. The Poodle (and Dog) Blog
Congratulations everyone! And many thanks to Salinger for the props to my blog!
Westminster–in 2001 BICHONS WERE THE BOMB!
My good buddy Billy over at Dog Show Poop has all the latest coverage on the Westminster Dog Show currently going on…but a comment by Salinger reminded me that back in 2001 a Bichon won this show! Ch Special Times Just Right! call name JR. And as it happens in this great cosmic universe, I was contemplating putting a playlist together of videos from this year’s Westminster and the first thing I came across was JR the Bichon winning the Westminster!
OK, now here’s the really crazy karmic part of this. 2001 was the first year of the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship…and guess who won?! That’s right! A sweet Bichon named JR!!
Hey Billy! What ever happened to JR?

Here’s the YouTube Playlist I’ve started for the 2009 Westminster:

Have the Obama’s Picked Their Pooch?
Euka, Vice President, Canine Communications
Euka came to us as a young pup seven years ago from the MIRA Foundation, in Canada. MIRA provides service dogs to the disabled, free of charge. Unfortunately for MIRA, but fortunately for us, Euka flunked service dog school because she was too friendly!
When I came into the meeting room this morning, Euka was there. I tried to get a nice photo of her, but she wouldn’t stand still. Then I realized she had her eye on her care-giver, the person she lives with, Vicky. If you watched the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship on TV last weekend, you would have seen Vicky in the last two minutes of the show. She was the one in the black evening gown, holding the check being presented to the owner of Holly who won Best In Show. Euka participates in one of our meetings.
So Eukanuba came to Pet Care to be our greeter, to attend meetings, and to oversee canine communications. OK, the whole “Vice President of Canine Communications” might be pushing your believability, but it’s so wonderful having her here at the office. When we have visitors, Euka greets them and lets them know that we’re very serious about dogs (cats too–but that’s a story for another blog day). She pokes her nose into just about everything and she is the symbol of our ultimate customer–the pooch.
Euka’s “desk” in our lobby.
So this morning Euka was focused on Vicky, who was across the room. After she trotted over to Vicky, I was finally able to get a decent photo of her.

What a great dog!
