Dave with Katie and Lacey

Dave with Katie and Lacey

Over the short time that I’ve known Dave (he’s been part of Eukanuba for over a year), I’ve learned to really appreciate his passion for dogs. And any time an opportunity presents itself, he’s the first to jump up and yell “I feed Eukanuba!”

1. What pets share your life?
We have a 12 year old Yellow Labrador Retriever, Katie, who picked out from a breeder. I was deploying quite frequently as a US Marine at the time, and Katie kept my wife company and a lot less lonely during my absences.
About a year ago, we recognized that Katie, as most older dogs do, was starting to slow down, and be much less active. We thought it would be a good idea to find a puppy to keep her company. As luck would have it, while doing a store-check one weekend with my kids, we happened upon a rescue-adoption program, and just fell in love with our second dog, Lacey (because she likes to chew shoelaces). She is now 8 months old, and is a mixed breed, probably primarily Chow and Black Lab. Her tongue is spotted and her hair stands on, but she also howls like a Beagle and jumps straight up like an English Springer Spaniel, so there’s no telling what’s really in her family tree!
At any rate, she and Katie get along great. Katie’s activity level has gone way up, and Lacey has a great companion to show her the ropes around the house.

2. What is your pet’s most unusual habit?
We took Katie, as a puppy, to the beach. We thought that she really liked licking the sand off her paws, but later realized that she was eating the sand. She had pure sand poops for the next two days!

3. What’s your favorite story about participating in a dog event?
I really enjoyed participating in the Morris Animal Foundation “K9K” Event – a walk to help raise funds to cure canine cancer, held in Sep, 2009, in Estes Park, CO. The locale was fantastic – right at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. Not only did we get to enjoy all the great dogs that participated, but also the Elk that really covered the landscape

4. What is your favorite part of working at Pet Care?
I truly believe in our mission “to enhance the health and well-being of more dogs and cats.” The science and research behind our all-natural food really gives credence to this mission. We’ve feed Eukanuba or Iams products to both our dogs for their entire lives, and both dogs thrive on the true nutrition that these products deliver.

Iams Home 4 the Holidays FIRST WEEK TOTALS!

October 8th, 2009 Comments off

Iams Home 4 the Holidays has begun!

From now until January 7, I will be posting weekly adoption totals every Thursday. The week runs Monday through Sunday, but because there are so many shelters and rescues to get numbers from, it takes us a few days to tabulate the grand total.

This first week is a little short of days: our adoption campaign started on October 1 with the week ending on October 4 (so only 4 days instead of 7). Compare this to last year, where the first week was 5 days (October 1-5), and our adoption totals for that first week (2008) was 31,900.

This year–somebody please cue the drumroll!–our adoption total for the first week is:

32,657 pets adopted!

Nearly 1,000 more pets in less time than last year!!

This breaks down to

  • 15816 Dogs
  • 14908 Cats
  • 1933 Other Types of Pets

Iams Home 4 the Holidays is up and running!! If you are with a shelter or a rescue group, you can still join us as we work to reach our goal of 1.5 million pets adopted into forever homes by January 2010.

Making things better at PAWS

Making things better at PAWS

Pricilla has been part of Pet Care for 9 years. I recently had the pleasure of working with her during the PAWS Animal Shelter makeover where she exhibited cutting-edge fashion sense and swung a swift and mighty hammer.

1. What pets share your life?
I have two sweet Shih Tzu’s – Pebbles & Bam Bam.

I got Pebbles about two years ago from a breeder and I rescued Bam Bam from some owner’s who didn’t really know how to take care of him.

2. What is the most endearing thing your pets have ever done?
Pebbles is my little diva dog and she walks around like she owns the world.  Even on walks she seems to be holding her head in the air as if to say, “See me world, I have arrived.”

My sweet little Bam Bam has come a long way from being a scared, timid lil’ man.  He is such a loving and appreciative dog.

They are both goofy and play so well together.

3. What’s your favorite story about participating in a Pet Care shelter event?
There are so many, I don’t think I could pick just one.
[Editor's note: Pricilla was team leader for the large dog area in last week's shelter rehab.]

 4. What is your favorite part of working at Pet Care?
I think one of my favorite things about working in Pet Care is the ability to be able to bring our pets to work.  It allows for such a good distraction when the day is hectic or stressful.  It’s nice to take a break, walk around and visit other dogs that are in the office.

Munch, the Iams Dog

I just downloaded this TV commercial into the Iams YouTube account. When I first heard talk about this ad, I was a little uncomfortable–I thought we might offend some of the Bulldog affectionados out there. But how could anyone not fall in love with this very handsome pooch? I smile every time I watch him strut down the street. What a dog!

Last year, we helped get over a million pets adopted.

This year, we want to help get over 1.5 million pets adopted.

Can we do it? Oh yeah!!!

Iams Home 4 the Holidays is one of the things that we do that makes me so proud to work at Pet Care. It feeds my passion for dogs and cats, and it’s simply the right thing to do.

Our adoption campaign starts today. From now until the begining of January, I will be posting an update every Thursday tracking our journey to our goal of 1.5 million pets adopted.

Peace on Earth. Good homes to pets!
